If you are looking for the perfect holiday and have never been to Cyprus before you really should consider going there. The island of Cyrus is a truly wonderful destination.
It is an island with a long history, a rich culture, beautiful scenery and fantastic food. Its people are friendly, welcoming and helpful. They love looking after visitors and do their very best to ensure that you enjoy your stay.
Cyprus – Two Cultures in One
The island is divided into two parts. One part of the island is Greek and the other part is Turkish. This means you can experience two cultures on your visit to Cyprus. A holiday to the island offers you the opportunity to learn about both cultures and to eat two different cuisines.
Prior to 2003, travelling between the two parts of Cyprus was quite difficult. Today, it is relatively easy to do so. However, if you hire a car and want to use it to cross the border you do need to check that you can do so in your hire car. Usually, those who want to travel from the North to the South of Cyprus cannot do so in a hire car. Oddly, if you are going the other way that is OK.
Holidays to Protaras
Historically the vast majority of visitors to the island stayed in the south of the island, in the Greek areas. However, increasingly people are opting to stay in the north of the island and are visiting Turkish resorts. Of these, the most popular, at the moment, is Protaras.
The resort has built itself up over the past decade and offers a huge array of hotels, apartments and other forms of accommodation. The resort has nightclubs etc, but less than somewhere like Ayia Napa. The local population has consciously designed the resort to appeal more to families and Cypriot holidaymakers. This makes it a more tranquil and relaxing destination than some other parts of the island.
Cape Greco, which many consider the most beautiful place on Cyprus, is just a ten-minute drive from Protaras. It is a nature reserve that offers unsurpassed views out to sea, and really is a must see.
