The Citreon C1 was first produced in 2005. It is a city car that has proved very popular. It was developed as part of a joint venture with Toyota. The car is identical to the Peugeot 107 and extremely similar to the Toyota Aygo. This collaborative approach has produced a car that has been well thought out. Citreon C1 Features
One of the most important features of the Citreon C1 is its high fuel economy. The car has a 1.0 L 3-cylinder engine, which does 61.4 mpg. There is also a 1.4 L 4-cylinder HDI diesel version that does 68.9 mpg. Der Spiegel said that it is the second most fuel-efficient non-hybrid car currently available.
It is also an exceptionally reliable car. The German Automobile Club rated the car as the most reliable car in the sub-small class.
The vehicle also has good safety ratings. Using the Euro NCAP five star rating system the car has four stars for adult and child occupants and two (out of four available for this category) stars for pedestrian safety.
It is available in either a three or a five-door format. The transmission is either a five-speed Manual or five speed SensoDrive box.
The car has been overhauled twice, in 2009, it was given a facelift. In 2012, there will be another new look for the car and improvements to the engines. The new 1 litre petrol engine produces just 106 g/km of CO2 and will do 72 mpg. However, there are no changes to the 1.4 HDi diesel engines. The car is now available in three more colours and features a new style steering wheel.
The Future of the Citreon C1
Unsurprisingly sales of the Citreon C1 are strong. Sales consistently outstrip production and have done so every year since 2009. There are no plans to stop production of this very popular vehicle in the near future. In fact, the rumour is that another update is already being worked on to keep the car up to date and ensure that it continues to appeal in the way it does today.
