Find a Good Tour Operator
The only way you can climb Kilimanjaro is with an organized trek which will take you along the established routes, so you will need to book the trip with a tour operator. Do lots of research to find the best company who has excellent recommendations from previous hikers.
Training in Advance
Before you climb Kilimanjaro, you must be in good physical shape so that you can handle the strenuous hike to the top which will take around 7 days. Start training a few months in advance by walking up and down stairs, going for 10 mile hikes on your weekends, going to the gym and doing exercises such as Pilates which strengthen your back so that you can carry your pack easier.
Breaking in Your Boots
Your hiking boots will be incredibly important to you when you climb Kilimanjaro, because you will be walking 4-10 hours per day for 7 days straight. If you are starting with new boots it is essential that you take them out for a few test hikes and break them in, because you don’t want a surprise blister forming when you are only halfway up the mountain. You can also add moulded insoles to your boots in order to give your feet more support.
