Career exploration today is full of both opportunity and uncertainty. The dynamic changes to professions, industries and jobs mean being prepared and flexible, no matter your position or role.
At University of Phoenix, students can access an array of career services resources and support. The University uses a four-stage approach called the Career Development Cycle.
About the Career Development Cycle
The Career Development Cycle provides students with insights and services salient to their evolving career exploration. At each stage, students can access support and resources to guide them through the career discovery process.
Imagine
In this stage, students and alumni find their path by asking key questions:
- What do I want to do next?
- What jobs suit me?
The PhoenixLink™ career portal is a natural starting point with a built-in tool that allows users to assess their interests and identify ideal careers.
Investigate
Once careers are identified, research helps students learn more about available options. In this stage, students consider jobs they may have interest in and the skills and education necessary to perform those jobs.
University of Phoenix staff help students develop goals to reach their desired careers. Staff create program-related projects and encourage learning to help students achieve those goals.
Implement
This stage helps students build the confidence and readiness to pursue careers. Resources and career-readiness tools help students to:
- Establish a personal brand
- Build cover letters and resumes
- Learn tips for interviewing and networking
The PhoenixLink career portal is invaluable by providing:
- Job listings
- An online resource library
- Access to a global alumni network
- Events such as job fairs
- Mentoring opportunities
Students can also access personal career coaching and academic advising through the University’s career services tools and resources.
Iterate
Career management is an ongoing process. This self-reflective stage is where students and alumni consider where they want to be in one or three years. They are also encouraged to think through a plan in case they become unable to work for their current employer.
University of Phoenix resources, including access to mentors, certificate programs and single-course options, allow for ongoing career enhancement.
